Our Values

At Surrey Goalball Club, we have 5 Key Values which are at the heart of everything we do: Sustainability, Equality/Diversity/Inclusion, Wellbeing, Community, and Collaboration.

Sustainability

We are committed to minimising our environmental impact by making responsible choices in our operations, from sourcing kit and equipment to reducing waste at events. Wherever possible, we will always prioritise locally sourcing playing kits, equipment, merchandise, etc, aiming to only work with suppliers using sustainable materials. We promote an eco-friendly philosophy within our community, encouraging use of reusable water bottles and limiting printed materials. We believe that sustainability is about more than just reducing our impact now, but about creating lasting change. We will continue to explore ways to make SGC as environmentally responsible as possible.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

We believe that goalball should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background, identity, or circumstances. Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do, from the way we run our sessions to the way we engage with our community. We actively work to remove barriers to participation, whether that means keeping costs low, ensuring our venues are fully accessible, or fostering a welcoming environment where everyone feels safe and respected. Sport should be for everyone, and we are committed to making Surrey Goalball Club a place where all players, coaches, and volunteers — regardless of race, gender identity, sexuality, or any other characteristic — can thrive. We recognise that marginalised groups such as LGBTQ+ people and ethnic minorities still face barriers in sport, and we are dedicated to breaking these down by ensuring that our club is a truly inclusive and supportive space for all.

Wellbeing

Sport should be a positive experience, not just for physical fitness but for mental health too. At Surrey Goalball, we put the wellbeing of our players, coaches, and volunteers first, creating a space where everyone feels supported and valued. Feeling part of a team, building confidence, and enjoying the game are just as important as skill development. We encourage a healthy balance in training, open conversations about mental health, and an environment where people can play without pressure. Goalball isn't just about competition; it's about having fun, staying active, and feeling good both on and off the court.

Community

Surrey Goalball Club is more than just a team — it's a place where people come together, support each other, and share a love for the sport. We believe that goalball has the power to build strong connections, whether it's between teammates on the court or friendships that extend beyond the game. Everyone who joins the club becomes part of a welcoming and inclusive community, where encouragement, teamwork, and respect come first. Whether you're a player, coach, volunteer, or supporter, you belong here.

Collaboration

We believe that working together makes us stronger. Surrey Goalball Club values collaboration at every level — within our team, with other clubs, and with organisations that share our vision for inclusive sport. We actively look for opportunities to train with other clubs, organise friendly matches, and share knowledge to help players develop and grow the sport. By building strong connections, we can create more opportunities for everyone, whether it's through joint training sessions, community events, or working with national organisations to expand goalball's reach. Progress happens when people come together, and we are committed to playing our part in growing the sport both locally and beyond.
