Get Involved

There are lots of ways to get involved with this amazing sport — whether you want to play, coach, volunteer at sessions, or support us behind the scenes, we’d love to hear from you! No experience is necessary, and all ages are welcome.

Play Goalball

Whether you’re completely new to the sport or an experienced player looking for a club, you’re welcome at SGC. We run friendly, inclusive training sessions for all abilities. You don’t need to be fit or athletic at all, nor do you need to have any equipment; we’ll lend you everything you need.

We welcome both blind/VI and sighted players alike, and are always willing to make accommodations for any other disabilities you may have.

Benefits of playing with us:

  • Be part of a welcoming and supportive community

  • Improve your fitness, confidence, and coordination

  • Improve your spatial awareness, mobility, and communication skills (all vital for blind and VI people)

  • Develop skills in teamwork, leadership, and strategy

  • Take part in competitions at local, regional, national, or even international levels — perhaps we'll see you at the Paralympics one day!

To start playing with us, send an email to Enquiries@surreygoalball.com, or fill out the form on this page. You can also just come along to one of our sessions, although we'd love to hear from you first if you can.

Volunteer

We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us give blind and partially sighted people access to goalball and physical activity. You don’t need any experience or skills — just a willingness to learn and support others. We’ll provide guidance and training where needed, and can signpost to other relevant resources.

You can give as much or as little time as you want. That could be an hour here and there or immersing yourself in all the training and competitions.

Volunteering is a great way to grow as a person, learn new skills, and looks brilliant on a CV or UCAS application! So why not give it a go?

We can of course make accommodations for any disability you may have.

How Might I Help?

  • Activity Assistants — help set up, guide players, and support during sessions

  • Sighted Guides — support players with navigation off-court

  • Coaches — help lead sessions (we’ll support your development if needed)

  • Admin & Comms — support with social media, newsletters, or fundraising

  • Events & Fundraising — help run events and raise awareness/funds

Benefits of volunteering:

  • Make a real difference in your community, allowing blind or partially sighted people to have the opportunity to engage in sport like everyone else

  • Build new skills and experience for your CV

  • Meet new people and be part of a team

  • Flexible, rewarding, and fun!

  • Use it to count towards a Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award

We’ll match roles to your availability, interests, and skills. Whatever time or help you can give, big or small, will makes a difference.

Want to join us as a volunteer? Send an email to Enquiries@surreygoalball.com. Even if you aren't sure how you want to help, we'd love to have a chat!

Please note: any volunteer who is in regular contact with players will be subject to a DBS Check through our national governing body, Goalball UK, in line with their Minimum Standards Framework and the SGC Safeguarding Policy. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the sport and at sessions/events. Surrey Goalball Club will fund this, so there will be no additional cost to yourself.
